As some of you might know, there has been a huge amount of unemployed airline pilots in Europe. A couple of years ago, airlines stopped hiring new pilots and the airlines that did only hired experienced pilots. At the same time, flight schools continued to educate new pilots at an insane rate.

I graduated in 2013, jobs were hard to find and I ended up in a really bad financial situation for years. It was difficult to find ‘light at the end of the tunnel’. The interest over my pilot loan was high and I tried to keep everything current as much as I could. I lived with my parents because it was simply impossible to live pay rent on my own. Luckily, after 2 years, I found my first airline job.

The market is currently changing. Quite some flight schools went bankrupt and there are not that many graduates left anymore. Unemployed pilots that have been looking for jobs for years are now finding their first jobs.

For anyone out there with a huge loan, worried about not getting an airline job, don’t give up. Stay positive, focused and before you know it you will get the job you always dreamed of.
